From a Woodstock roastery to cups across South Africa
A Cup Of began in Woodstock in 2012 with a simple idea: good coffee should be easy to get, easy to brew and worth looking forward to every morning. We started close to the city, where the mix of offices, studios and busy households made it clear that people wanted coffee they could trust. Over time, that same practical approach carried us beyond Cape Town and into homes and workplaces in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban and Gqeberha.
Today we roast single-origin coffee in small batches and deliver subscriptions as well as supply for businesses that need consistency week after week. Our work is shaped by South African realities, from load-shedding and coastal humidity to busy office kitchens and shared hospitality counters. We plan for those conditions so the coffee keeps tasting right, even when the day does not go to plan. The result is a service that is steady, direct and built around how people actually drink coffee.
What we stand for in every roast
Our values are simple. We believe coffee should show where it comes from, be roasted with care and arrive fresh enough to make a proper difference in the cup. We do not chase fuss or gimmicks. Instead, we pay attention to the details that matter most: bean selection, roast profile, grind guidance and delivery timing.
Single-origin coffee gives us a clear way to work. It lets us highlight the character of each origin and keep the flavour honest from roast to brew. Some coffees are bright and citrusy, others are deeper and chocolatey, and some shift with the seasons. We guide customers through those changes so they know what to expect and how to make the most of each batch. It is a practical way of keeping coffee interesting without making it complicated.
- Roast with consistency so each bag performs the same way at home or in the office
- Choose coffees that show clean flavour and good structure in the cup
- Keep communication clear, useful and based on real brewing needs
- Plan ahead for stock, deliveries and seasonal changes
- Support customers who are learning as well as those who know exactly what they like
The people behind the coffee
A Cup Of is run by a team that understands coffee from different angles. Michael van der Merwe leads the business with a focus on long-term reliability and sensible growth. Ayanda Mkhize heads roasting, making sure each batch lands where it should in flavour, texture and balance. Jason Petersen manages subscriptions, which means your coffee arrives on time and in the right rhythm for your household or team.
On the education side, Naledi Molefe helps customers get more out of every brew, whether that means improving a pour-over, setting up a moka pot or adjusting for different water conditions. Liam Naidoo handles wholesale coordination, Zinzi Dlamini looks after customer support and Francois Smit keeps operations moving across packing, stock and dispatch. Together, the team keeps the work grounded and responsive. There is no guesswork in the background. Just people doing their part and checking the details twice.
How we work with homes, offices and hospitality spaces
We supply coffee in a way that fits the setting. A family kitchen, a creative studio, a reception area or a small cafe all need different support. Some customers only need a regular subscription with a suitable grind. Others need brew station setup, coffee menu planning or seasonal coffee rotation to keep service interesting through the year. We also work with meeting rooms, wellness rooms and event teams where coffee has to be easy to serve and simple to manage.
Our approach starts with listening. We ask about volume, equipment, cup style and how the space operates during a normal week. From there we can suggest the right beans, the right delivery cycle and the right method for keeping stock under control. If a business is scaling up, we can help with forecasting so the coffee does not run out at the wrong moment. If a home brewer wants cleaner results, we can assist with grind calibration and brewing advice that makes an immediate difference.
- Coffee Supply for regular home or office use
- Brew Station Setup for counters, kitchens and shared spaces
- Grind Calibration for more accurate extraction
- Subscription Management with flexible timing
- Stock Forecasting for busy teams and hospitality settings
- Event Coffee Planning for short term service needs
Fresh coffee, handled with care
Roasting coffee is one part of the job. Getting it to the customer in good condition is the other. We take storage, packing and dispatch seriously because fresh coffee can be affected by heat, moisture and time. That matters in coastal areas like Cape Town and Durban, where humidity can shift quickly, and in inland cities where office use can be heavy and steady. We work with those realities in mind, so the coffee arrives ready for brewing rather than needing rescue.
For customers who order subscriptions, timing is everything. Some households drink a bag in a week, others prefer a slower cycle. Offices often need a set rhythm that matches their staff count and meeting schedule. We build around that. When stock changes or a seasonal coffee comes in, we keep customers informed in plain language, not in a way that creates extra admin. That is part of how we work: practical, calm and clear, with a bit of flex where it helps.
Why our coffee keeps people coming back
People stay with A Cup Of because the coffee is good, but also because the process is straightforward. They know what they are getting, when it will arrive and how to brew it properly. That reliability matters whether you are making a quick cup before school, serving guests in a boardroom or keeping the staff kitchen stocked through a busy month. Good service should make life easier, not add another task.
We are proud to be based in Woodstock and to serve the Southern Suburbs, Atlantic Seaboard and customers across the country. That local base keeps us close to the work, while our delivery reach lets us support more people without losing the personal side of the service. We are still the same team that cares about the roast, the grind and the next cup. That has not changed since 2012, and it is the reason people keep choosing us.
